Aby otworzyć (zalicytować którąś z powyższych odzywek) powinniśmy mieć w swoich kartach co najmniej 12PC i 5+ kart w danym kolorze. Przykładowo do zalicytowania odzywki 1pik potrzebujemy minimum 5 pików i 12PC:

Otwarcie 1NT mówi o silnych kartach i zrównoważonym składzie, licytujemy je kiedy mamy 15-17PC, nie mamy żadnego singla ani renonsu (singiel-pojedyncza karta w kolorze, renons-brak kart w kolorze).
